Eurovision 2009 and Greek television

March 19th 2009 10:46
Sakis Rouvas is deep in preparation to represent Greece in Eurovision 2009. He will be singing 'This is our night'....we certainly hope it is! I'm not too sure about this song, it has its catchy moments but it's not mind-blowingly brilliant. However, it's a good song and should be enough to secure Greece a good place. Sakis brought Greece home the third place with the song, 'Shake It' in 2004. Kalomoira did it again in 2008, winning third place with 'Secret Combination. What can I say, we all want that first place again but we'll see how it goes on the night. Eurovision is after all a very unpredictable competition and many of the countries also vote with a political agenda in mind. Good luck Sakis!

Travelling into the world of Greek television (a frightening venture at times) Niko Moutsina and Katerina Zarifi are no longer hosting ANT1's flailing morning show Proinos Kafes. Apparently it was a mutual decision between them and management. Hmm, I'm sure that the huge decline in ratings had nothing to do with it. Further, singer Giorgos Lianos and Despina Kambouri have taken over, on a temporary basis. The ratings have since improved quite dramatically. They've even come close to coming out of third place and into second. Not a bad effort at all.

In other morning shows, Eleni Menegaki is still the queen of this timeslot and rightfully so. Gregory Arnaoutoglou is great as always, and coming in at second place. There have also been rumours circulating about him and his co-host Nadia Boule, something which seems to keep the viewers coming back for more.

Do the gossip magazines in Greece have nothing else to do other than create stories about Gregory and all of his female co-hosts? They have linked him to almost every female co-host he has worked with. Yes, we know he's a bit of a player but not that much! The only time the rumours have actually been true were when they were linking him to his ex-fiancee Rania Thraskia! I have not believed the rumours from the beginning but a magazine has printed, from a supposedly reputable source, that Gregory and Nadia are officially an item. If so, I hope his ex-Rania sees it, and sees what kind of beauty she's been replaced with. Nadia is young, beautiful and talented. She's certainly an up and coming presenter and is doing very well currently on Omorfos Kosmos to Proi.

Talking about Thraskia, she and her husband grace the cover of this week's OK! magazine. I do use the word grace loosely. There's no doubt that Rania can do it herself, she's looking lovely and apparently she's having a boy, but seriously...the husband? He looked old when she married him less than a year ago and now he's gone and grown himself a nice stubbly beard...the grey/white hairs are everywhere. Come on, the baby will be born and immediately think it's Grandpa!

And on that catty note ends this weeks venture into the world of Greek television, music and gossip.

Drugs, DNA and Lawsuits

February 22nd 2009 06:16

Model Teo Theodoridis has been caught with drugs, yet another Greek celebrity who is a secret user. Teo is a successful model, and has stated many times that he enjoys a healthy lifestyle. Yeah, and that's why he was caught with cocaine. It's the healthy lifestyle that he tries to promote. I remember seeing him on an episode of Omorfos Kosmos to Proi, and I was just thinking, 'wow, this guy is HOT'! Actually the photo probably speaks for itself, I don't need to say it. He's likely going to be jailed for this, he allegedly had a substantial amount found on him. I guess the celeb life isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Aliki Arvanitidi went on Anna Drouza's show *yawn* and whined again about how the DNA test her husband Pashali Arvanitidi took was not completed correctly and the results were not conclusive. We've heard it all before Aliki, you sound like a broken record. For a smart woman, you certainly aren't acting like it. The hubby did the deed, he fathered the child, and you can both say the results aren't correct until you're blue in the face, it won't change anything. DNA tests don't lie....your husband however does.

Rania Thraskia is pregnant. How exciting. *yawn* I don't know about this woman but her personality change about two years ago makes her completely unlikeable and her show could not be called exciting by any means. Maybe that's just me, but I don't like being told what to think by someone who couldn't get her own life in order not that long ago. How quickly she forgets. I wish her well with the pregnancy, and I hope the baby takes after her more than her husband. Meow!

Effie Sarri is busy taking the incredible Lakis Lazopoulos to court. It's satire Effie, get over it! I know he makes fun of you but he's doing it on a satirical show. I like Lazopoulo, he's not only funny but also very smart. She states that satire has boundaries which have been crossed by Lazopoulos. Satire does have boundaries and maybe if he was talking about me I'd see it in a different light but I haven't yet seen Lazopoulo cross the line. Oh, he's come close, he's nudged the line but his satire still comes across as funny, smart and well-delivered.

25 sexiest pop divas

November 14th 2008 23:15
E! Entertainment's list of the world's 25 sexiest pop divas included our own Elena Paparizou!

It's great to see a Greek singer included in any list, and even though this list focuses on her looks rather than her abilities, it does help put her out into the international arena and hopefully she will gain some more recognition in future. After all she does have it all, looks and talent! Go Elena! Elena even came out on top of people such as Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti and Madonna.

The full list:

1- Alicia Keys
2-Rihanna
3-Leona Lewis
4-Beyonce
5- Gwen Stefani
6- Girls Aloud
7-Christina Aguilera
8- Shakira
9- Nelly Furtado
10- Nicole Scherzinger
11- Jennifer Rose
12- Paulina Rubio
13- Sophie Monk
14- Mariah Carey
15- Coco Lee
16- Elena Paparizou
17- Fergie
18- Kylie Minogue
19- Ashanti
20 - Jennifer Lopez
21- SugaBabes
22- Eve
23- Natasha Bedingfield
24- Jessica Simpson
25- Madonna

Elena first became known through her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 as part of the group, Antique, along with her friend Nikos Panagiotidis. Together, they brought Greece the highest place it had gotten until then, 3rd, and Elena took it to a new level when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, with the song 'My Number One'.

This brought her both national and international recognition and she has continued to build on her career as a singer, releasing songs in Greek and English. She's shown herself to be one of Greece's most talented young singers.

Where do they rate?

November 13th 2008 04:08
A short journey through the television ratings gathered by AGB for this week does not bring too many surprises. The ratings have been compiled by the media news site, enimerosi24.gr and have been translated into English characters by me.

Ratings below, the ratings specifically for ages between 15-44 are in brackets

It's contagious!

It seems that showbiz couples are breaking up left, right and centre at the moment in Greece. One after the other, they're dropping like flies.

And the race has begun

September 27th 2008 09:31
After the summer hiatus in Greece, the shows are all back on, except for some new tv shows coming in October.

Last week Eleni Menegaki returned to her throne as the Queen of the morning shows, and this time, Gregory Arnaoutoglou started with her! The two shows have never started on the same day so it was interesting to have this comparison in the ratings. The ratings were very close, with Eleni retaining her crown by the smallest margin with Gregory and his show Omorfos Kosmos to Proi right behind her

Eurovision 2009?

July 17th 2008 20:24
Greek organisers are really into the spirit of Eurovision still, two months after this year's competition. They are already working out just who will be the Greek representative in 2009.

Sources suggest that Sakis Rouvas will be the Greek entry to the competition, which is in Moscow between the dates of 12, 14 and 16 May next year

Nikos Sergianopoulos found dead!

June 4th 2008 11:52
I am in shock since I heard this piece of news. He was an amazing actor who had his share of difficulties but he was on the right track again, only for this to happen.

The police are treating this as murder, due to the multiple stab wounds found on his body. It's so sad. I just hope the killers are found and brought to justice

And the winner is....

May 25th 2008 00:29
The news sites have already reported it, they put it in the titles rather than the article itself, not even trying to protect those who may not want to know before the Eurovision final airs tonight. However, it is an event that we see long after the result is known so I will waste just a little more space (if you don't want to know who won, shield your eyes now) before announcing that the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 is

RUSSIA

Eurovision 2008

May 24th 2008 04:20
It's that time of year again, time for Eurovision.

While it is not the most well-known event for those here in Australia, it has a huge fan base and Europe tunes in yearly to see which country becomes the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest
