He's the father!

A story that was brewing for over a year in the Greek showbiz circle is that of singer Pashalis Arvanitidis and the woman that came out and stated her child was fathered by him.
Pashalis is one of the 'old' singers in the industry, he's had years of experience and has never shown himself to be anything but an upstanding and a devoted family man. He has been married to his wife, a lawyer by occupation, for over 40 years and when the story broke no one believed it to be true.
The shock that came today for much of the Greek population when the results of the DNA tests came out cannot be described. The result said it all - he is the father.
There have been nothing but denials and accusations that the woman claiming he fathered her child was delusional from his camp throughout this ordeal but today he had to admit it. Through a press release Pashalis states that it was a mistake that happened in a moment that he regrets, he will stand up to his responsibility as the father, he denied it all this time to protect his family and his family continues to stand beside him.
His wife has certainly stood beside him in all of this and seems to continue to do so after the result was given. I guess forgiveness is a different issue in a marriage lasting over 20 years but I don't believe her apparent cool collection in front of reporters was anything more than putting on a brave face. She did seem to lose that calm facade during some parts of the press conference and one cannot begin to imagine what's going on inside that family after this shock.
What we do know is that this family has always been loving and devoted, has never caused much more than a ripple in Greek showbiz with any scandals of any sort but it seems it has all come at once for Pashalis Arvanitidis.
The warring continues on all sides, the mother is suing for her pain and suffering as well as claiming that this was not one moment but a 4 year relationship! Pashalis denies it saying it was a mistake made once, and which side is telling the truth is hard to call.
However, one does need to question Pashalis' honesty now - he could have come out a year ago and admitted to all this without all the mud-slinging that has gone on since then. The Greek public loves him and trusts him, that trust has now been shaken when it could have been retained by simply being honest from the beginning rather than flat out denying it and calling the woman delusional for even claiming such a thing.
I do believe the public will continue to support him, but I must say it does come as a shock because of who Pashalis has shown himself to be all these years. This is not a man one would expect this sort of scandal from and that is what the public will likely hold onto.
