January 17th 2007 00:50
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was yesterday senteced to community service, after throwing a mobile phone at jher then maid, Ana Scolavino, who required four stitches after the king hit. Campbell was also required to pay Scolvino's $363.50 medical bills.
Campbell's lawyer, David Breitbart, requested that Campbell be allowed to do indoor community service, such as secretarial duties or helping out in a hosptial. The judge took this into consideration, as working outside would be unaccpetable for Campbell as she had received death threats.
Campbell, 36, had denied second-degree assault. Had she gone to trial on that charge and been convicted she could have been jailed for up to seven years. The model was arrested after Miss Scolavino claimed she threw the phone at her after accusing her of stealing jeans she wanted to wear to appear on Oprah Winfrey's TV show. Mr Breitbart said it was possible the maid's lawyers would now file a civil suit against Campbell.
