Where do they rate?

A short journey through the television ratings gathered by AGB for this week does not bring too many surprises. The ratings have been compiled by the media news site, enimerosi24.gr and have been translated into English characters by me.
Ratings below, the ratings specifically for ages between 15-44 are in brackets.
Tuesday 12-11-08
Morning news shows
Kalimera Sas 23,2% (12,0%) (Alpha)
Kalimera Ellada 22,5% (20,7%) (Ant1)
Koinonia Ora Mega 20,0% (15,3%) (Mega)
Proti Grammi 13,1% (9,7%) (Net)
Proini Meleti 10,6% (21,3%) (Star)
Skai Xamogelo 1,3% (3,1%) (09.00-10.00)(Skai)
Kalimera Ellada with Georgio Papadaki always seems to be at the top and this season has been no different. Greece respects him and follows him every year. The same goes for Giorgio Autia on Alpha and while the ratings state that he won the top spot for Tuesday, and not only, as he is also well-liked and respected by viewers and is regularly awarded that spot, it also needs to be noted that he fared less well than Papadaki in the key age group of 15-44. His 12% is nothing compared to 20.7% by Papadaki. This is also in a closer range to his overall median rating, which is why I consider him to have gotten the top spot for the day.
My particular favourite came third, Koinonia Ora Mega. Kambouraki and Oikonomea make the news interesting in a very unique way, they're funny and remind me a little bit of David Koch on Sunrise. Not physically of course, but the sense of humour and their style has some similar touches. They fared very well though, gaining 20% of the viewers and a respectable 15.3% of the younger group.
Morning entertainment
Kafes me tin Eleni 23,1% (25,4%) (Alpha)
Omorfos Kosmos to Proi 18,5% (19,3%) (Mega)
Proinos Kafes 12,9% (15,6%) (Ant1)
H Ellada Paizei 11,4% (6,7%) (Alter)
Iparxei Logos 7,0% (7,1%) (Star)
The Crown goes to the Queen of this time slot but the Crown is passed around very often between Eleni (Kafes me tin Eleni) and Gregory (Omorfos Kosmos to Proi). It's close every year between these two and it seems even closer this year, both shows doing very well and coming out miles ahead of the rest. One only needs to look at the ratings to see the other three shows are lagging behind and eating their dust each day. Proinos Kafes has seen an improvement of sorts but Marietta from H Ellada Paizei can't be happy with those ratings! Not even the teenage boys are tuning in to watch her judging by the tiny 6.7% in the 15-44 age group!
Oprah style talk shows
Aksizei na to deis 21,4% (20,6%) (Ant1)
Boro 14,0% (11,3%) (Star)
Koitao Brosta 12,9% (6,7%) (Alter)
Siga min katso na skaso 7,5% (10,5%) (Alpha)
The Oprah Winfrey show 3,0% (4,3%) (Skai)
Tatiana rules this format, even from her gossip Queen days of Apokalipsi Tora. She came out as the winner with a large margin, and does so on a daily basis. Last season I did see Koitao Brosta come out on top once but that was for one day, Tatiana does it every day and does it with style.
Koitao Brosta and Boro are regularly fighting it out for the second spot, last season it was Koitao Brosta that got the silver and it will be interesting to see what happens at the end of this season in June. Frankly, Boro bores me and Anna Drouza as host, while you can tell she has intelligence, also comes across as boring. Rania Thraskia, host of Koitao Brosta seems to get more and more unlikeable every year. The change is baffling, she was so sweet and genuine during her Omorfos Kosmos to Proi days. She does a great ice queen impersonation and her know-it-all advice to viewers is irritating to say the least. She's great at what she does though, I have to give her that. If only she'd remember her old self though, and forget about this new version. She thinks she's looking forward, as the title of her show states also, but what she's done is looked so far forward she's fallen flat on her face and gotten amnesia in the process. The younger viewers aren't tuning in for this either, 6.7% compared to Tatiana's 20.6%.
It's a pity Siga min katso na skaso hasn't done better, I hope the bosses over at Aplha give it a chance before pulling it as it's a great concept, Oprah style like the others but with the comedic talents of Maria Bakodimou and Fotis Sergoulopoulos hosting it. It's something with greater appeal to the younger audience and the ratings in that group regularly surpass the show's overall median rating, meaning that it is mainly the 15-44 age group that watches the show. I think it's a great concept, it is well done and that it deserves to be given more of a chance by viewers.
The Oprah show is on in this time slot too, but it is hardly surprising that it came out with 3%. The majority of viewers in this timeslot are probably age 50 and over, so it's highly unlikely grandma will tune into Oprah when she can watch one of the other shows that are in her language. Many of them just don't understand much English and won't be bothered reading the subtitles.
Tune in next week for yet another analysis of the ratings generated by the little machines of the AGB.
